HAPPY FATHER’S DAY

When your kids are little it's easy to be Super Dad. They don't know anything. They don't have anything to compare you to. You're the biggest and the tallest and the strongest and the bestest. In their eyes at least, but that's the best possible audience. If my child and wife love me and are proud of me, then I really don't care what anyone else thinks.

As they get older though, that gets a little harder. You're not the man you were when they were younger. You're older now. They've met more people, they've seen more people and it's harder and harder for them to see you as the superhero they did when they were a toddler.

You can get it back though. It's not too late. Yes, their expectations are higher now that they're older, but they also understand what hard work looks like. They understand perseverance and overcoming and improving against odds.

You can still be a super hero to your kids as they get older. I know because I'm 35 and I think my dad is a superhero. I'm old enough to know there are other dads out there stronger and faster than him now. Man, I'm one of them! But I'm also old enough to value more than just being the strongest.

My dad is a superhero to me STILL because I know how hard he works. It's not as easy for me to be fit at 35 as it was 25 or 15. I can't imagine it's going to be easy at 65, but that doesn't stop my Dad. I am old enough to respect his hard work and dedication. We cheer at the end of Rocky, not because he won the fight against Apollo Creed (he didn't). We cheer because he won the fight against himself.

You can do that too. If you need help being the Dad that sets the tone for the family we're here to help you. If you need help being the person that shows your family how to find a big goal and commit to it, we're here to help. We can help you and then when YOUR kid is in their mid thirties, maybe they'll talk about you the way I talk about my dad. But you have to start now, because it's not going to be easy.
